How BNG works in practise.
BNG Assessment. Our consultants will undertake an initial UK habitats conditions assessment.
Onsite BNG plan. Our landscape architect are then able to design as much on site habitat mitigation into the development as possible.
Identify onsite deficit. We are able to use Defra metric to identify the offsite BNG requirement if required. We are then able to source BNG units by identifying habitat banks to provide offsets.
BNG units are site-specific calculations used to measure biodiversity loss and gain on a particular development site. They are determined through a biodiversity metric, which assesses the habitat type, condition, and ecological value of the land being developed. BNG Units can be bought from habitat banks to compensate for losses made on the development site.
Biodiversity credits are a financial instrument used when developers cannot achieve the required net gain on-site or through off-site BNG units.
A developer must demonstrate that the hierarchy has been followed and that buying BNG credits is an absolute last resort. At which point the LPA may permit a development subject to a Biodiversity Gain Plan.

I have employed the services of Simon and Amenity Tree on many projects over the last 8 years of varying complexity. They have worked on everything from bird and bat surveys through to providing advice and guidance on bio-diversity issues, and many more services in between. I have found them to be nothing but professional in their performance and, importantly, amicable, friendly and always informative. I recommend their services to any developer out there.

At Casey I have used Amenity for a wide range of services over a number of years, I have always had a professional and quick response from Simon and his team and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

We employed Amenity Tree to initially conduct Ecology, Habitat, protected species and Tree surveys for our Merseyside Police HQ project in Liverpool. These surveys were conducted on time and in sufficient detail, ensuring the project captured all relevant Breeam credits and the emerging design could respond to any site conditions. Simon and the team have always responded quickly and professionally and we have no hesitation in recommending them.
